Wilson Staff spiller signer pro-kontrakt
Joakim Lagergren, the highly-rated Swedish player who contested a dramatic play-off at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters last year, has signed to play exclusively with Wilson Staff clubs for the first time this season.
A former winner of the Northern Ireland Open on the Challenge Tour, Joakim has joined the strongest line up of Wilson Golf professionals on the European Tour for many years.
It includes 3-time Major champion Padraig Harrington, former Open champion Paul Lawrie, the redoubtable Anthony Wall, former English Amateur Champion Paul Waring and the charismatic Marcel Siem, whose contract has also been renewed. Together, these five experienced professionals account for a total of 29 victories on the European Tour and more than €55m in prize money.
Stockholm-born Joakim, 26, enjoyed a strong finish to last season when he was T12 at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and inside the top 20 at the UBS Hong Kong Open.
“I’m very happy to be joining the Wilson Golf Tour team at a time when it includes so many champions who have already shown what can be achieved with the amazing Wilson Staff clubs,” said Joakim, who is competing at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship this week. “I’m really excited about playing with the same V6 irons and PMP wedges that the likes of Padraig, Paul and Marcel have put to such good effect.”
Commenting on the new Tour line up, Doug Wright, Global Commercial Director at Wilson Golf said: “The signing of Joakim a young up and coming player on the Tour further strengthens the brand resurgence that is taking place at Wilson.
“Both Padraig and Paul will be returning to Carnoustie for this year’s Open Championship with happy memories of previous memorable victories and every member of the team will be wanting to take part in the Ryder Cup contest in Paris, where we hope that Wilson Staff clubs can help return the trophy to Europe,” he added.
